Die Gangsta-Rapper Compton's Most Wanted trafen sich 1989 in Compton, USA. Sie unterschieden sich von Beginn mit ihren relaxten Beats und nachdenklichen Lyrics von vielen anderen, aggressiveren Acts. Ihr Debüt-Album "It's a Compton Thang" (1990) gilt dennoch als eines der das Gangsta-Rap-Genre prägenden Alben. CMWs 1991er Single "Growing Up in the Hood" wurde ein Hit und schaffte es auf den Soundtrack des Films "Boyz 'n the Hood". Trotz aller Erfolge löste sich die Hip-Hop-Band 1992, kurz nach dem Release ihres Albums "Music to Driveby", auf. Eine Reunion folgte 2000.
