Steve Wariner was a six-string protege of Chet Atkins long before his more traditional new country songs made him millions. At the young age of 17, Steve Wariner's guitar playing was so impressive that Dottie West asked him to join her band. Garth Brooks recorded a slicked-up version of Steve Wariner's "Longneck Bottle" and took it to No. 1 on the country charts. Singing with Capitol Records' Anita Cochran and letting labelmate Garth Brooks record his song, got Wariner a Capitol deal. "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" won Steve Wariner two 1998 CMA awards: Song of the Year and Single of the Year.
