A group of ex-punks who've managed to turn kids on to fusion and minimalist composers. Gee, thanks! Tortoise took their name from the title of guitarist John Fahey's publishing label, also called Tortoise. This instrumental ensemble from Chicago set jazz standards of their own with Post-Rock/Fusion concepts. A tortoise is also a popular animal in children's stories. Former member Bundy K. Brown left after the group agreed to contribute a song to a Joy Division tribute LP.
